Protector
Daddy is a protector
He’s Mr. make it happen when nobody else can
The man
Behind who I am
I was three when I knew
that there’s nothing that my dad wouldn’t do
for me
I was in my car seat
And he was trying to make it home
He couldn’t have known
That even then
I had really strong opinions
He took a route that took me out of my routine
Following a detour
Sure that his decision to stray
From the beaten path today
Wouldn’t affect me in any way
But to his surprise I screamed and cried
Mommy don’t go this way!
Say what?
Mommy don’t go this way!
And instead of doing what was easy
He turned around and sat in traffic to appease me
Then bragged to all his friends
About his genius three year old daughter that already knew her way home
Meanwhile he had shown me
That daddy
Without hesitation
Or reservation
Will always respond
When somethings wrong
I have someone to call on
And recall all of these memories with
Reminiscing on the anecdotes that tell the story of my childhood
Evoking laughter and providing a bit of background
On why I am who I am
How we’ve grown over the years
And why my dad’s just the best
